Give Yourself a Break

If you're like me, it's really hard to relax. Like, actually do nothing and rest. (If this is not you, I'd love to hear how you do it.)

I've been in need of a break lately. Historically, it's not been easy for me to notice or admit it, but this time, I actually listened to what my body was telling me.

This week, I took mini breaks to give myself what I needed -- a reset, a recharge. They looked like:

  • Spending 15 minutes to eat at my table instead of in front of the TV.

  • Taking a random 2-hour nap instead of forcing myself to stay awake and "power through."

  • Throwing my phone in another room for an evening to just be with me.

  • Letting my sister drive on our family vacation road trip, and actually enjoying being in the passenger seat.

Taking breaks allowed me to be gentle, kind and loving to my body and my energy, so I could give myself what I truly needed. In doing so, I moved with more ease and presence into the next moment.

No matter what your schedule is like this next week, you are deserving of a break. Can you carve out time for a mini break or two, especially when your body, energy and heart are asking for one?
